October 2004
Dear Friend Of Connecticut's Young Writers,
Thanks to your wisdom and generosity, we are in our 8th year of operation. Connecticut's best young writers are not only $100,000 richer collectively, they also have been enriched by the affirmation that they are, indeed, writers. With your continued support, we will distribute another $19,000 in 2005. In our recent prime essays we mentioned the details of these operations, including the general income.
Currently, we are mailing entry forms to all of Connecticut's public, private and parochial schools. We have also posted the solicitation and entry form at sites including ctyoungwriters.org and www.csu.edu
Our kickoff event for this fall will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at La Cupola Ristorante, 637 Bantam Road, Litchfield, 860-567-3326. We hope you can join us for this gala evening featuring live jazz by by the Mary Davis combo and readings by young writers. More program details to follow.
Workshops for young writers will be scheduled next spring at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. CCSU poet in residence Ravi Shankar is organizing this event, which is sponsored by Connecticut Review, the nationally-renowned literary journal published by the CSU System.
Ravi will also serve as the keynote speaker for the young writers annual dinner, June 5, 2005 at the Litchfield Inn.
The Young Writers Trust will accept donations to defray the cost of the upcoming Nov. 12 event. In addition, we are booking space in our 2005 program for the annual dinner in June. Thank you again for your continued support.
Best regards, Andy and Marilyn
