YOUNG WRITERS CELEBRATION -- Montville High School writer Emily Dykes was among the speakers at the fall kickoff for the IMPAC-Connecticut State University Young Writers Program at La Cupola restaurant in Litchfield on Nov. 12.
Dykes is the 2004 statewide prose champion. The program has given $100,000 to young writers since 1998, including $2,000 to Dykes. She and her family also traveled to Dublin in June to attend the awards ceremony for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, which is a prize of 100,000 Euros for an adult work of fiction.
The entry deadline for the next young writers competition is Feb. 1, 2005. Entry forms are available at ctyoungwriters.org
Workshops for young writers will be scheduled next spring at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. CCSU poet in residence Ravi Shankar is organizing this event, which is sponsored by Connecticut Review, the nationally-renowned literary journal published by the CSU System.
Shankar will also be the keynote speaker for the annual young writers dinner on June 5, 2005 at the Litchfield Inn.
