State Scribes To Honor Retiring Chancellor Cibes
Hartford Courant
January 4, 2006

Connecticut writers Wally Lamb, Marilyn Nelson, Franz Douskey and Vivian Shipley, along with student winners of writing competitions, will give readings at an event Friday to honor William J. Cibes Jr., who is retiring as chancellor of the Connecticut State University system.

The reception at 6 p.m. at the Litchfield Inn's Bistro East, 432 Bantam Road, Litchfield, will include entertainment by the Jen Allen Jazz Combo.

Lamb, author of "She's Come Undone" and "I Know This Much Is True," will read from his novel-in-progress. Nelson, the state's poet laureate, will read from her works, as will Douskey and Shipley, who recently won the Connecticut Book Award for Poetry.

Winners of the IMPAC-CSU Young Writers Trust prose and poetry competitions, including Emily Dykes, Jessica Roth and Charlotte Crowe, also will read.

The event is sponsored by Connecticut Review and the trust. A $20 donation is suggested to benefit the trust, which administers high-school writing contests.

Space is limited. For information, call 800-814-6931.
