THE results are out! The IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for Young Malaysians 2006, which aims to encourage young people to express themselves creatively in English, has named its top 20 shortlisted entries.
In its fourth year, the competition has attracted a record 1,100 entries this time round, with essays based on the theme “If I Could Change the World”.
Open to students aged between 14 and 18, the competition is jointly organised by the Embassy of Ireland, IMPAC management productivity company, The Star and the National Library. It is supported by the Education Ministry, and sponsored by IMPAC as well as the Irish Universities and Medical Schools’ Consortium, St Patrick’s Society of Selangor and Malaysian Irish Alumni Association.
The author of the best overall essay will win a trip for two to Dublin to attend the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award gala ceremony.
A total of 20 entries were shortlisted last week, and the winner of the grand prize and recipients of the nine merit awards will be announced on May 19.
